Zinc is a mineral that you know you should be getting in your diet, but probably aren’t consuming enough of. There are so many health benefits of this mineral. On top of that, there are so many things that can go wrong if you aren’t getting enough.
Whether it be through food intake or supplementation, it is vital that you get enough zinc. Beyond its health properties, it has many uses in weight loss. That is why it has become a popular diet pill ingredient. One such diet pill is Phen24 (read about it here). In this post, I’ll take a look at why this mineral is used for weight loss.
Health Benefits of Zinc
It is vital that you be getting enough zinc on a daily basis, and not just for weight loss purposes. When you are not getting a sufficient amount of this mineral in your diet, there are a number of issues that can arise. Zinc plays a large role in protein synthesis, which helps you build muscle. You will become weak and fatigued without this mineral. On top of that, it helps to boost your immune system. So if you want to keep the common cold at bay – get more zinc! Plus, it also helps to heal wounds and can even improve your sense of taste and smell.
Zinc is in a lot of foods that we regularly eat, particularly in meat (more specifically in dark meat poultry), as well as dairy, seafood, nuts, and legumes. But just because it is found in many foods, that doesn’t mean that we are getting as much as we should. Experts recommend that the average person should be taking in 10+ milligrams per day of zinc. Pull up a food calculator online and find out what your daily intake of this mineral is. Chances are, you’re not getting enough, so it is wise to add some through supplementation.
How Zinc Helps With Weight Loss
When studying obese people, it was observed that for the most part, they had lower levels of zinc in their bodies as compared to a healthy person. This formed the idea of a link between zinc and obesity, so a study was conducted with zinc supplementation on a group of obese test subjects. After adding 30 milligrams of zinc to their daily diet, the participants lost weight and increased their lean muscle mass. This led to an improvement in their body composition (fat percentage). In addition, there was a noticeable increase in triglyceride levels.
It should be noted, however, that zinc alone won’t lead to weight loss if it is not the underlying cause of the weight gain. It is similar to iodine in that respect. However, it is an important nutrient that you should have in your diet regardless. The best way to get it as a weight loss aid is as part of a formula in a diet pill. There it will be alongside other active ingredients to boost your metabolism and curb your appetite. Combine that with a healthy diet and exercise, and you should see the unwanted weight come off.
