What is Ketosis?

how do you reach a metabolic state of ketosis?

Keto keto keto. It’s the buzzword in the diet industry these days. I hear from so many people in my social circle, as well as many people online on Instagram, talking about following the keto diet. But honestly, as much as the term is thrown around these days, how many people really know what it means?

Sure, you may know the basics of it – you are limiting your carbs and eating more healthy fats. But to what purpose are you changing your diet like this? The answer is to bring your body into a state of ketosis. But what is ketosis, you might ask? Continue reading below for the answer.

What’s Ketosis, and Is It Healthy For You?

While it’s not a term that you often hear, at least not until recently, it is not a foreign state for your body. It is a natural metabolic condition whereby your body produces ketones (sources of energy) out of fat. This is in place of your body’s normal source of energy, which is carbohydrates.

One way to get your body into this state is to follow a ketotarian diet, which contains foods that are minimal in carbohydrates and higher in fats. Mind you, don’t just go eating all kinds of fatty foods, as some fats are better for you than others.

With fewer carbohydrates in your body, there is less glucose, which is typically your body’s preferred source for energy. When there are few carbs for your body to tap into, it needs to turn to another source for fuel to get you through the day and workouts. That’s when it turns to fat as a source.

Benefits of Ketosis

There are a number of properties that make reaching a state of ketosis healthy for your body.

Weight Loss

This one is apparent by what I described above. When you are using fat as energy, this keeps all that fat that you consume from becoming fat deposits. If it isn’t used as fuel, it instead creates fat stores, especially around your waistline and on your hips and belly.

When you are trying to lose weight, getting on a better eating plan and doing more exercise is a great start.

But that helps you lose mass all around, and often times the weight that you lose first is water weight. After that, you may begin to lose muscle mass if you are restricting your calories too much.

With a keto diet, you are forcing your body to lose fat. It’s a great way to eliminate all those extra pounds in the troublesome areas!

Better Energy

Sure you can get energy from carbohydrates, but there’s a drawback to that. Think about when you get all hyped up on sugar and caffeine, whether it be from a coffee or an energy drink. You will get a boost of energy for a while, but what happens after that? You crash, and you crash hard. When you are burning fat for fuel, you don’t get this drastic drop afterward as you do with sugars.

Lower Risk Factors of Disease

Studies have indicated that reducing the intake of carbohydrates can lower the risk factors for a number of diseases that arise from unhealthy habits. These include diabetes, heart disease, cardiovascular issues, Alzheimer’s, cancer, and Parkinson’s disease.

How to Attain Ketosis

If you want to reach a state of ketosis, you need to start following a keto diet. Lower the number of carbs that you take in, and start eating more healthy fats.

Another way to achieve this metabolic state quicker is through supplementation. Taking a diet pill like Green Force Keto is a great way to do this. Normally, changing your eating habits can take days, if not weeks, to convert your body to ketosis. Using a supplement like this can shorten that timeframe dramatically.
