I’ve talked about the use of zinc in diet pills in another post on this site, but beyond being a great additive to dietary supplements, it also has popular use in many of the top testosterone boosters on the market today.

So what is it about this mineral that makes it such an important part of this hormonal supplement? I took a closer look and present my findings below.

I’ll back up for a second and describe what testosterone is and why it is important. It is a hormone that plays a crucial part in male health, supporting everything from sex drive and libido, to muscle growth and bone strength. While this hormone is produced naturally in the testes, the male body begins to slow down production as men enter adulthood. When that occurs, it is important to boost the t-levels with a supplement.

What Does Zinc Do?

When it comes to a testosterone supplement, it is not very clear what role zinc plays. Zinc is a crucial dietary mineral for so many different bodily functions and processes, and having a zinc deficiency can lead to many health issues.

This mineral helps strengthen the immune system. It also helps in the breakdown of food and nutrients, the main reason why it plays a key role in many diet pills.

As for muscle-building supplements, it can boost the enzymes that produce protein in our bodies.

While it can be found in foods, it is often not ingested in a large enough amount to get a recommended daily value of this key mineral. That’s where supplementation comes into play. As for how it works in a testosterone supplement, research is not definitive in its role. However, studies have indicated that regular supplementation of zinc (30 milligrams daily) increased the amount of free testosterone in their bodies.

As for speculation on why this occurs, many hypothesize that it interacts with the cells in the testicles that are responsible for producing testosterone hormones. However, further research indicated that it had no effect on men who were already getting enough zinc in their diet. Rather, it is useful to supplement with zinc if you have a deficiency, but there is a point of diminishing returns. If you are already getting enough zinc, going over and above a certain amount will have no further benefit.
