CBD and Arthritis

how CBD helps arthritis

One of the most common diseases in the country is arthritis, afflicting more than 50 million people in the U.S. While it is so prevalent, the real effect that it has is not widely acknowledged because it is such a silent disease. Many just suffer through the pain and accept it as the hand they are dealt.

It is so widespread that it is actually signified as the leading cause of disability in America, which makes a great impact on not just the individuals who are affected by it, but also the economy and the healthcare system in general.

Arthritis and CBD

Fortunately, there are remedies to help alleviate the symptoms of this disease. While it is not a fatal disease, it leads to great discomfort by those who are afflicted with it. Arthritis is symptomatic by inflammation of the joints that results in chronic pain. This pain gets worse as the individual ages. The inflammation causes swelling and stiffness and a reduce range of motion of the affected joints. Most commonly it is found in the wrists, hands, and knees, though it can affect any joint of the body.

How CBD Can Help With Arthritis

A number of studies have been conducted on the effect that the use of CBD products can have on this disease.

The results have been very promising, and CBD has seen growing use (with the growing legality and availability of these products) to help provide relief to sufferers.

how cbd can bring relief to arthritic joints

One study conducted in 2006 found that the use of CBD alleviated the pain for afflicted subjects without the presence of any side effects. On top of relief from their pain, the participants also noted that they were sleeping better as well.

Another study that was done in 2016 used CBD ointments (a topical pain reliever made from CBD) to treat joints that were inflamed by arthritis. The results of the study indicated that the cream significantly reduced inflammation in the area a well as reduced the pain experienced. Again, like in the previous study, this came with no adverse side effects.

How It Works

The results of the studies done on this subject are not surprising. When consumed orally or applied topically, CBD can have anti-inflammatory effects that reduce swelling to the area. This is possible because the CBD engages with receptors in the endocannabinoid system which regulate your cells’ responses to pain and inflammation. By stimulating these receptors, your cells more efficiently react to arthritis and minimize the symptoms.

Where to Buy

If you are looking for a recommendation on CBD products, I have reviewed many on this site that could work wonders to provide relief for arthritis. The most effective route, I think, is to use a topical product so it can be applied directly to the affected joint. Green Roads, which I go into greater detail in this post, makes an amazing CBD pain cream which would be my top recommendation for a product of this type.
