Whenever I’m buying a testosterone supplement, one of the ingredients that I look for is Fenugreek. No, despite the name, it has nothing to do with the country of Greece. Rather, it is an herb that is traditionally used in Persian, Indian, and Turkish cuisine.
It has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties (despite just being a tasty herb additive to dishes), so I decided to take a deeper dive into what it does for the body and why it is so commonly found in test-boosting supplements.
As mentioned above, this herb (scientifically known as Trigonella Foenum-Graecum) has been used for ages for its benefits towards blood sugar control (benefiting diabetes), for an increase of breast milk production in women, as well as boosting libido and testosterone levels in men.
As for its testosterone boosting properties, while it does show promise in that area (especially when taken at a dose of 500mg per day or higher, it is best utilized when mixed into a formula with other powerful active ingredients like Magnesium and D-Aspartic Acid.
This herb has tremendous benefit to the body when taken regularly, whether it be through your diet or with supplementation.
Some of these benefits include:
In terms of its use in a testosterone booster, fenugreek has the ability to stop the bioconversion of testosterone in the body. It prevents testosterone hormones from converting to estrogen. Estrogen is a feminine hormone that men have, but it is best to keep it in check to keep testosterone levels high. Fenugreek can help maintain a proper balance between these hormones.
The following values are based on 100 grams of Fenugreek:
This is one ingredient that I always look for in a t-booster, and it’s no surprise that those that contain this herb are among the top recommendations on this site. If you’d like to check out a t-boosting supplement that contains this ingredient, take a look at any of these reviews below:
When you look at the top testosterone boosters on the market, you find commonalities in some of the ingredients. I take that as an endorsement that these ingredients are worthwhile in a product like this. One such ingredient that I’ve found in a few of the brands I review on here is Tribulus Terrestris.
Curious as to what this ingredient is and what it does, I decided to take a deeper into its benefits and why it is such a useful additive in test-boosting formulas.
This ingredient is an herb that is found quite commonly in t-boosting supplements, but does it serve a purpose? I had to dig to find what this additive is all about, as there is not a ton of information out there on it.
However, the research that I found is not very promising. If there really was a singular ingredient that caused a man’s hormone levels to shoot for the roof, I would place a wager that you would find it in the medicine cabinets of just about every man in the world.
According to one study that I found, with the disclaimer that it was a very small sample size of only 16 participants, the effect of this herb on muscle size and strength aren’t very strong. In fact, when compared to that of a placebo group, there was no difference between the two groups when it came to musculature.
On the other hand, however, it was found to have a great effect on the male libido (their sexual drive). This leads me to believe that it is mostly added to the formula to increase circulation (which makes its way to the nether regions to improve sexual function) and to provide an energy boost.
Don’t get me wrong – that’s one of the benefits of taking a testosterone booster, having more energy and feeling more virile.
But, if you are looking to this ingredient as a way to increase testosterone production in your body, you are going to be disappointed. That is why it is used as part of a formula, and not individually as a standalone supplement itself, where it becomes a part of a complete blend that will boost your t-levels with the inclusion of other active ingredients like D-Aspartic Acid, Magnesium, Zinc, and others.
I’m not saying that Tribulus Terrestris is useless, just that it won’t help you build muscle. It can improve circulation, which improves the health of your organs and cardiovascular system, which contribute to overall health and wellbeing.
If you want to experience the benefits of Tribulus, you can find it in the following t-boosters that I review on this site:
There are some ingredients that are just so effective at what they do, that you will find them in all of the leading brands for a product of a certain type. When you look at a couple of the best supplements for boosting testosterone like Testogen and TestoFuel, you’ll notice some commonalities between their ingredients lists.
One such ingredient is D-Aspartic Acid, which is by far the most crucial ingredient of any t-booster that is worth your hard-earned money. So what is it, and what does it do that makes it a “must-have” in the formula?
If you aren’t familiar with testosterone, it’s a hormone that helps to build muscle, raise your energy levels, and increase libido. Many bodybuilders and athletes take it to increase their physical performance, helping them get through their workouts, lift more weight, and recover faster between sessions.
As men age, their levels of testosterone drops, which has a number of detrimental effects on health and mood. That is why it is important to supplement to bring t-levels back to a healthy amount. In most such supplements, you’ll find D-Aspartic Acid, but why?
Both when produced naturally by the body, and when consumed in supplement form, D-Aspartic Acid has the unique ability to produce hormones as well as regulate how efficiently they are released.
Studies have indicated that this amino acid can stimulate the release of a hormone in the brain that is responsible for testosterone production. Aside from its effect on the brain, it also interacts with the testicles to produce and release more testosterone.
With these two reasons, it is no wonder why it is a critical component of any top testosterone booster, such as the two reviewed below (my top two recommendations):
Beyond just its effect on testosterone, studies have indicated other health benefits associated with this amino acid. For one, it can increase male fertility. One study tested subjects who were having fertility issues, with the end of the experiment showing a dramatic increase in sperm count.
On top of having more sperm cells, there was also much more mobility of the sperm. More active sperm is more fertile, so this amino acid both improved the quantity and quality of the sperm.
While these studies were performed on men, there is speculation that it may have a similar effect on a woman’s ovulation.
It should be noted that the studies on testosterone boosting yielded the best results for men who had a low level of testosterone to start. They showed a significant increase in muscle mass, strength, and energy. If you are otherwise healthy and virile, it may not be as much of help. If you are sluggish and fatigued and a man in your 20’s, 30’s, 40’s or beyond, low t-levels may be the culprit and it might be time you start supplementing. Taking a testosterone booster like these ones I review here may be just what the doctor ordered!
In another edition of taking a look at the ingredients of popular diet pills, today I put together some findings on L-Arginine. This is an additive to many dietary supplements, but it caught my eye when looking on the label of my bottle of Green Force Keto (hlcomic.com/green-force-keto-review). So what is this ingredient and what does it do? How does it help you lose those excess pounds? I do in-depth on the benefits below.
I should probably start by describing what L-arginine is, so you have a better understanding of what it can do. If you are a fan of going the natural route to losing weight, you will be a fan of this additive as it is a naturally-occurring amino acid that you will find in many types of meat and dairy foods. That means you can get it organically through your diet, but often we are not getting enough of it to get the most benefit, which is why it is important to boost your daily dose through supplementation.
Once ingested, here are the ways it can be beneficial to your health:
If you are familiar with the keto diet at all, you know the basic principle is to make your body burn fat for energy, instead of burning carbohydrates. You can do this by a couple methods. You can adopt a diet made up of keto-friendly foods, and you can quicken the changing in your metabolism through supplements. These will get your body into a state of ketosis, whereby fat is burned for the body’s fuel.
It is no wonder that L-arginine is a primary active ingredient in Green Force Keto as one of its main functions in the body is to increase the burning of fat (according to studies), while also maintaining muscle mass. This keeps fat from becoming deposited as fat stores in troublesome areas like the belly and hips. This ingredient reduces the activity of adipose tissue, which is what your belly fat is mostly made of.
By reducing the amount of fat in the body, not only do you have a leaner and more attractive physique, but I’m sure I don’t have to tell you about the other health benefits that come from being at a proper weight. Among other benefits, you will reduce the risk factors for diabetes, heart and cardiovascular issues, and other diseases.
Not only do you see this is an ingredient in diet pills, but it is often found in muscle-building supplements like testosterone boosters (hlcomic.com/best-testosterone-boosters).
That is because L-arginine has been shown to raise the level of Human Growth Hormones (HGH) in the body.
This has the effect of increasing muscle mass (provided there is stress on the muscles through resistance training). In addition, it boosts metabolism due to increased musculature.
Ever notice how after you have a cup of coffee or an energy drink, that after the period of increased energy, you come crashing down afterward? That is because you are burning carbohydrates and glucose for energy. When energy comes from fat, this crash does not occur. Additionally, L-arginine boosts the production of nitric oxide in the body which dilates the blood vessels. This increase in circulation can provide a natural boost of energy.
When you look at the ingredients of diet pills, a lot of times you’ll see them using the same ones from brand to brand. That’s because there are proven ingredients that make any diet pill worth the money. On the other hand, sometimes you find a unique part of the formula that you don’t see elsewhere. That gets my inquisitive mind wondering what the use of it is.
One such ingredient, which I found on the label of Green Force Keto (reviewed here), is beta-hydroxybutyrate, or “BHB” for short. I was curious what this additive does, and why it is such an important part of the formula that helps your body attain ketosis at a quicker rate, so I decided to do some research and see what it is all about.
Just saying, and typing, the name of this ingredient can be a mouthful. Hereafter I’ll just be referring to it as BHB. So what is this ingredient and why is it used in diet pills?
BHB is a proprietary blend of calcium, sodium, magnesium, and potassium that is added to dietary supplements such as Green Force Keto to help provide energy for exercising, as well as enhance mental function. It accomplishes this by raising the level of ketones in the blood, which helps your body process ketones (produced from fats) for energy.
If you know even a little bit about a ketogenic diet, you know that is the most fundamental part of it. Burning fat, and not carbs, for energy. Supplementation with BHB chemically helps your body perform this process.
While BHB is naturally produced in our bodies, it is not at a high enough amount to quicken the state of ketosis, so if that is your goal, supplementing is your best bet to shorten the timeframe it takes for your body to make this adaptation.
When consumed, BHB circulates through the blood into the brain and muscles.
Once it reaches these cells it is converted into acetoacetate, then acetyl CoA, where it becomes part of the citric acid cycle to generate ATP. This is a molecule that is responsible for transferring energy between cells. In the case of a keto diet, this is the transport of ketones.
There are a number of reasons why BHB, and the processes that it contributes to, is healthy for your body. Speaking particularly to how it helps in a keto diet, BHB has been shown to:
In addition to using this supplement, you can adopt a ketogenic diet. This forces your body to make the adjustment of burning fat for energy, instead of carbs. The following resources on the keto diet and keto-friendly foods provide great nutritional information for these purposes.
Alpha lipoic acid is an organic compound that has antioxidant powers and has gotten a lot of buzz lately in the diet and health industry. While it is produced naturally in the body, it often isn’t found at a high enough level to really get the most out of its many health benefits, which is why it has begun to take prominence as an ingredient in diet pills.
So how effective is this compound, and what health benefits does it have for your body? I did some research and present my findings below.
What makes alpha lipoic acid such a valuable compound is that it is both water and fat soluble, meaning that it can be used in every tissue or cell in your body. This is unique from other antioxidants, which are mostly only soluble in one or the other. So what does this mean for your health?
There are a number of ways that this antioxidant can help you lose weight. Research has indicated that it can inhibit enzymes in your brain’s hypothalamus that create hunger. With these enzymes blocked, your appetite is suppressed and you don’t overeat. It makes it easier to stick to your diet and avoid unhealthy snacking.
In addition, the suppression of these enzymes also has the effect of increasing your metabolism. Put those two together – eating less, and burning more calories – and you have a formula for weight loss!
A number of studies have been conducted to study the effects of supplementation with alpha lipoic acid versus a placebo group. Over the course of 14 weeks, test participants who took this antioxidant lost more than 1.5 pounds (on average) over the placebo group, and that number rose to almost 3 more pounds of weight loss in the span of 23 weeks. While the effects may be slight, it is still a net positive in your weight loss journey.
Being overweight or obese is a risk factor for diabetes, so this antioxidant helps you lower those risk factors.
On top of that, alpha lipoic acid can help regulate your blood sugar levels. Animal testing on this
ingredient has indicated a reduction in blood sugar by more than 60%. Testing on humans gave evidence that it can help with insulin and glucose levels. This leads many to believe it can be a great aid to those with diabetes.
One of the top killers in America is heart disease. Fortunately, risk factors for these cardiovascular issues can be reduced through the consumption of alpha lipoic acid. The antioxidant properties cleanse your body of free radicals that attack your cells, cause oxidative stress, and can lead to heart disease. Additionally, it can help your blood vessels dilate more efficiently, lowering the risk of heart attack and strokes.
This ingredient is used in many of the top diet pills on the market. For my money, one of the best brands out there is Shredz, which makes dietary supplements for all body types. You can read my review of the Shredz Fat Burner here: hlcomic.com/shredz-fat-burner-review/
