It seems like CBD is popping up in every single kind of product these days. And when I mean everything, I mean everything.
Of course, we all know the benefits that this alternative medicine provides when it is ingested, whether that be through the use of an oil tincture, edibles, vaping, or otherwise. It is also well-known how much cannabidiol can be of use when it is applied topically to the skin, both for skin care benefits as well as for relief of aching muscles and joints.
But another area where we are starting to see the use of CBD is in the beauty industry. It makes sense, as we know how good it can be for the skin, but it’s interesting to learn more about how and why it is beginning to be used by makeup companies.
One such company that has launched makeup products containing cannabidiol is Milk Makeup with their release of a product called Kush High Volume Mascara in 2017. They have since continued this trend with new products like a lip balm, lip glaze, and brow gel. The way they work it into the formula is by replacing beeswax with CBD. Typically, beeswax is used in products like these as a binding agent that allows for a smoother application of the product.
Another brand that has hopped on board is Kiehl’s, as they have launched a Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Concentrate. On top of just makeup, you’ll find it in other types of beauty products such as perfume, hair products like shampoo and conditioner, as well as bath bombs and shower gels.
So what is the reasoning behind this? For the most part, it comes down to the most sought after benefits that CBD provides when taking it in other product forms – the calming and soothing properties it provides. Cannabidiol is one of nature’s most powerful relaxants. On top of that, it also has strong moisturizing properties that can make it a powerful skin care proponent when applied in a makeup product.
Other than Kiehl’s, it seems like only smaller companies in the beauty industry have jumped on this trend at this point. However, due to the constantly rising popularity of CBD, and loosened regulations in the 2018 Farm Bill that will create even more supply and demand, I think it is only a matter of time until the big players in the beauty and personal care industry hop on board to cash in on this booming market.
For me, I absolutely love cannabidiol in all forms and it has become a daily ritual for me, whether it be for relief from stress and anxiety or respite from physical pain. While there is limited research at this point, due to the recency of this alternative medicine, I am just one of many anecdotal experiences that can attest to the power of CBD. I hope to continue seeing it pop up in all kinds of forms!
If you want to check out a brand that offers a huge variety of CBD products – including the beauty and skin care products I discuss above, definitely take a look at Diamond CBD. They are a “one-stop shop” for all kinds of needs. If you want more recommendations, I provide my top brands here.
Every day it seems like we are hearing of another celebrity that is using CBD to improve the health and wellness. If you want to hear about some other celebs that endorse cannabidiol, you can find a rundown that I provide in this post.
In the latest news of celebrities on the CBD train, we got a report from the red carpet at the Academy Awards (a.k.a. the Oscars) that star actress Melissa McCarthy used some of this alternative medicine before the awards show.
So what did she use it for?
It turns out that she is not a fan of wearing high heels. I can’t attest to the pain, being a man and not a wearer of high heels, but I can imagine that if you don’t wear them often, they are probably a killer on your feet. Something tells me that McCarthy is much more of a casual dresser when she has her choice and is not often a wearer of high heels unless it is an occasion such as an award show.
According to a report from special correspondents for Bustle at E! Live from the Red Carpet, the actress slathered CBD oil all over her toes before slipping into her high heels for the evening. The reason, if you are unfamiliar with this alternative medicine, is because it is a natural pain reliever, and she used it as a preventative measure to combat any foot pain from her shoes for the evening.
Apparently, McCarthy wasn’t the only celebrity to use this trick for the night. It is also reported that several stylists for the evening stocked their kits for pre-show preparations with CBD oil to lather onto the feet of female stars.
This raises some questions for me. I can attest to the powers of CBD as a pain reliever. I use it often myself, especially after a tough workout where I really tear up my muscles to the point that they are very sore the next morning. It is also great for the chronic knee problems that I have. It works wonderfully as a pain management aid (like by using this balm from Thought Cloud).
Having said that, however, I am not sure about the benefits of using it before anticipated pain as a means to prevent it from occurring. I’m not sure it works that way. It can help get rid of pain after you are suffering from it, just like taking an analgesic, but I have doubts about how it would work as a precautionary measure beforehand.
In any case, the use of CBD is rather new and there is still much research to be done on this alternative medicine. Who knows, maybe it does work ahead of time if you are anticipating some pain later on. I guess I will have to give it a try myself (and no, I won’t be testing it out by trying on some high heels).
If any of my readers have any insight on whether it works this way, feel free to chime in with a comment below!
Following up on my previous post about needing clarity on the regulation of hemp products, it seems that Indiana is doing just that with the proposal of Senate Bill 516.
While this won’t address the issue I addressed in my previous post, that being the legality of edible CBD products in the eyes of the FDA, this will help the state of Indiana provide some guidance on what will be legal — and illegal — regarding the use of cannabidiol products for the near future.
As found in this article that brought this topic to my attention, this bill would create a hemp advisory committee in Indiana that would provide guidance on the state’s hemp laws. As I have said many times in previous posts, while the Farm Bill of 2018 (which included the Hemp Act) was a big move forward for the use of CBD products (it made it legal to grow and distribute industrial hemp), it also left a lot of gray area in regards to these products.
The main issue, on the federal level, is that while industrial hemp has been made legal on the federal level, the FDA has not yet approved these kinds of products as safe food additives.
That has led to the crackdown by many jurisdictions against the use of CBD in food and drinks.
However, in a twist that I have not seen in other cases like this, an amendment added to the bill includes a ban on smokeable CBD products. In almost every other case, the bans have always been on edible forms of CBD. This amendment in Indiana would ban consuming CBD oil through a vape pen.
The reasoning behind this is not explained in the article that is linked above and has me scratching my head while this particular type of CBD product would be banned, while there is no mention of edibles like we are seeing elsewhere. If any of my readers have some insight on this matter, I encourage you to leave a comment on this post if you have information to share.
The bill also includes a ban on hemp buds and hemp flowers. Under this bill, it would be legal to grow, handle, and distribute the hemp plant, provided that the distributor is licensed by the state for processing or manufacturing it into a legal hemp (CBD) product.
While there are a lot of questions raised by this — such as why is the smokeable form banned? — this bill has passed through Indiana’s Senate with an overwhelming 47 to 1 vote. It has now been moved to consideration by the state’s House of Representative. I will be keeping on eye on this situation and seeing if other states have similar bill proposals, or if we see other cases of banning smokeable products. Regulation can be a good thing and a bad thing. It moves hemp products out of the gray area that they currently reside in, but I am confused by some of the limitations that Indiana is placing on this plant.
If you live in the state and still want to get your hands on products of this type that may now be banned, you can always go online to find a seller. You can find my top recommendations here: https://www.hlcomic.com/best-cbd-oil-reviews
Whenever I post another article that I come across where a municipality is banning the sale of CBD-infused food and drink, the reason is all because of the FDA.
While the Hemp Act (part of the 2018 Farm Bill – described here) was a big step forward for the cannabis industry as it made it legal on the federal level to grow and distribute industrial hemp, the FDA has not yet come around on the idea of this alternative medicine as a food additive.
I came across this article on CNBC.com today and the message from the cannabis industry to the FDA is clear: add some regulation.
The legislation that was passed in December and signed by President Trump has forced the Food and Drug Administration to come under fire for what has become a booming market with high demand. There is no doubt that cannabidiol was the hottest trend in the health and wellness industry in 2018 (if not the biggest trend across all industries), and this legislation has set the stage for this medicine to become an even bigger business in the coming years.
However, as the FDA has not yet done their research (as this is a relatively new medicine) and given the clearance for CBD to be used as a food additive, it remains in a gray area from a legal standpoint. This is true even in states where marijuana has been legalized recreationally. Some cities and states have even gone so far to levying fines and pulling products off the shelves of retailers that are selling food and beverages that are infused with cannabidiol. As to why only certain municipalities are performing this crackdown on CBD edibles, and others are not, I am not quite sure.
This uncertainty of the legality of selling CBD products in edible form has been quite a hindrance on startups who are looking to cash in on this booming industry.
It has also prevented large food and beverage conglomerates from entering the fray and truly bringing this alternative medicine to the masses.
As a cafe owner in New York City says (quoted in the linked article), “The boogeyman used to be the DEA and now it’s suddenly become the FDA.”
There is a meeting of the House of Representatives this week in which Scott Gottlieb, the Commissioner of the FDA, will be testifying. While the meeting is for budgetary purposes, at least one state representative has stated that they plan to press him on the issue of CBD. I plan to keep a close on the proceedings and see what kind of answers Gottlieb provides. I hope to hear a favorable response, an update on where the FDA currently stands, and their timeline to make a decision on CBD. Gottlieb has said in the past that the agency would be establishing new rules to approve CBD products like these for consumption, we have not yet seen anything to that point. I hope this week’s meeting provides some more clarity.
When it comes to choosing a CBD brand, you need to be careful. This has become such a booming industry in the past year or so, and is positioned to be an even bigger market in the coming years. Legislation has loosened that is making it a fruitful industry to get into, and there seem to be new entrants hitting the market every day.
With that said, you want to be sure that you are selecting a brand that you can trust. There a lot of newcomers that are just trying to make a buck on the hottest new industry. You want to find one that is in it for the right reasons, has been around for a while, and are producing high-quality, potent, and safe products that you can shop for with trust. As you’ll find in my Diamond CBD review below, this is one of those brands.
The first thing that I do when evaluating a cannabidiol/hemp brand is look at their About Us page. I visit this section of their site before I even navigate over to their products to start shopping. I want to know the company history, who is behind the brand, what their mission is, and determine whether it is a cultivator and distributor that I can trust.
Right from the get-go on their site, I’m greeted with this message:
At Diamond CBD, our main focus is to research and develop innovative CBD hemp extracts and to make them accessible worldwide. Our team, made up of doctors and scientists, is dedicated to producing the finest and purest CBD products while never compromising on quality.
They’re already speaking my language right there. Continuing on, they state that they pour a lot of time into research and development to create diverse, high-quality hemp extracts that provide a broad profile of cannabinoids and other natural plant compounds and utilize each molecule to get the most benefit from their distinct properties.
All of the products at Diamond CBD are meticulously monitored throughout the growth and extraction process. Their products are all natural, backed up by third-party lab tests. I like that transparency of their product potency and purity, and it is an absolute must when buying from any CBD seller.
All of their products are non-GMO and organically grown. Each plant is manually selected for the best attributes and gently harvested and dried under the top conditions. To get the best cultivation around, they work with farms in the prime environments of Kentucky, Colorado, and Scandinavia.
Diamond CBD utilizes an industry-leading supercritical extraction method to get their CBD oils from the hemp plant. This approach is the most gentle and yields the highest quality CBD, retaining all of molecules and compounds that naturally occur in the hemp plant.
As stated above, each and every batch that goes through their production line is lab-tested. This ensures that there is a consistent product with the highest purity and potency possible. All stages of their production process, from the growth to the manufacturing and distribution, is carefully supervised. This vertically-integrated model ensures complete oversight of product quality from seed to shelf.
All the company info checks out – let’s see what kind of products they offer in the rest of my Diamond CBD review.
As you can see in the image above, they offer a wide variety of CBD oils at Diamond CBD that will fit everyone’s needs. From full spectrum to isolates to crystal, natural tasting or flavored, there is something for everybody. There are nearly 500 different CBD oils in total – more than I can even detail in this post – so I truly mean that they have literally anything that you could be looking for. There is a type, strength, and flavor for every possible user of oils, making this your “one-stop shop” when you are in need of relief.
All of their tinctures and oil drops are infused with premium CBD-rich hemp oil, non-GMO, THC free, pesticide free and made in the USA.
Some people prefer to vape their cannabidiol, and just like with the oils, they offer a wide range of products of this type. From vape oils, vape pods, and hardware (pens and tanks), they carry everything you need to take that CBD with you for inhalation of this alternative medicine whether you’re on-the-go or relaxing at home.
This is one of my favorite forms of cannabidiol. Not just because they are so effective and easy to use, but because they taste so good! As you would expect (considering the two previous categories I detailed), they offer a huge assortment of CBD edibles. They have gummies, just like you would expect with any brand that carries edible CBD, but on top of that, they offer a bunch of varieties that I haven’t seen elsewhere. You can get cake pops, honey, even CBD-infused popcorn! I haven’t given that last one a try, but I definitely want to – the relaxation from it would go great when watching a movie at home.
I feel like I’m repeating myself here again, but Diamond CBD offers such a huge catalog of products. Their CBD-infused drinks section is no different. I’ve seen other brands offer CBD coffee like at Green Roads, but nowhere else have I seen such an assortment of beverages with cannabidiol. Whether you want it in a coffee to perk you up while easing your tension, or taking a quick shot for relaxation, Diamond CBD has you covered in this category.
This is a form of cannabidiol that I don’t particularly use, but I know many people love it. Crystal dabs are a form of CBD oil that is an isolate powder that is refined to a 99% concentration of cannabidiol. You can add this pure, raw crystallized powder to food or drinks, as well as vape it. They offer these in a wide range of strengths, from a low of 250mg per package to a mind-blowing 10,000mg packet!
Not only is cannabidiol effective for pain relief and relaxation when ingested, but it can also work wonders when applied topically to the skin. They offer a wide range of creams at Diamond CBD, with a full complement of bath and body products, skin care products, pain relief creams, and more. When applied topically, these creams can soothe the burn of irritated or dry skin, or can penetrate deep into the skin to bring relief of aching muscles and joints. They make a great addition to your skin care routine, as well as your workout routine!
The last category is for our furry friends. Not only can we benefit from the properties of CBD, but our pets can as well! Whether it be an aging or injured pet that has trouble with mobility, or an anxious pet (whether it be separation anxiety or fear of public places), these products can help ease their pain and stress and help them be themselves again. Diamond CBD offers a range of pet foods, treats, and sprays (which can be added to food or drink) to help restore wellness to your pet’s life.
It is safe to say that Diamond CBD is absolutely a trusted brand, and nobody can argue with their catalog. This is clearly a “one-stop shop” for all your cannabidiol needs, and I have no choice but to end my Diamond CBD review by giving them my full endorsement as one of the best brands around. They even have a relationship with Tommy Chong for some of their oils and edible products! Not much better endorsement than that in this industry. No matter your product preference or severity of your issues, there is something for everybody at Diamond CBD.

If you’ve visited this site before, you will know that I have a passion for CBD products. They have improved my life tremendously, whether it be for physical pain or helping out with mental anxiety and stress.
But these products haven’t only made an improvement in my life – they’ve made a huge impact on my dog’s life as well. Just like how us humans can benefit from cannabidiol, so can our pets. I have a dog, Summer, who is a testament to just how effective CBD is for improving the health and wellness of our furry friends.
You may have heard this story before if you’ve read some of my other reviews, but if it is your first time visiting, I’ll fill you in on Summer’s story. She is an absolutely beautiful, sweet Golden Retriever with a heart of gold and never met a human she didn’t love. But Summer’s life hasn’t always been rosy. I got her through a Golden Retriever rescue, who had been called in when she was found as a stray at a gas station, left alone for a couple of days.
She was thin and weak, had heartworm, kidney issues, and had what the rescue deemed “the worst hips we’ve ever seen.” She is a record holder at the rescue for incurring the highest total medical bills needed to get her back to health and ready for adoption, as well as the longest tenure in a foster home while she was on the mend before finding a forever home.
When I first got her, she was pretty immobile as she was still fresh off of her latest hip surgery. Still, she had the biggest heart of any dog I’ve ever met. I knew that exercise was needed to get her strength back in her hip, but she just couldn’t go very far. That’s where CBD came into play. After giving her some cannabidiol, she was able to ignore the pain and start going on walks, which progressively got longer. She still has a bit of a swagger in her hind legs, shaking her butt like a salsa dancer when she walks, but the CBD has done wonders for giving her more mobility.
Ok, so the story aside – why should you choose LolaHemp over all of the other brands that offer CBD for pets? From a product standpoint, they have a lot of offerings that are similar to the rest of the industry. However, there is one big thing that sets them apart…
LolaHemp is in this business for the right reasons. They are not just distributing these products to cash in on what has become the biggest trend in health and wellness these days. How do I know that? Because of all the charitable giving they do. For every four bottles that they sell, they donate one to an animal rescue organization. I don’t know of any other brands out there that do that.
LolaHemp truly cares about animals and is making and selling these products for altruistic reasons. I liken them to Toms shoes if you are familiar with that brand (they give shoes to Africa). This philanthropic angle sets LolaHemp apart from the other pet-centric CBD brands out there and gives them a huge bump over other CBD brands that also sell products for products.
Rather than just describe all of the different ways that you can improve your dog’s life with CBD, I feel like this infographic sums it all up perfectly. There are so many reasons why you would want to give this alternative medicine to your pet, and my dog certainly ticks a few of these boxes!
While the product list isn’t as extensive as with other pet CBD brands, that shouldn’t be a reason to discount LolaHemp as what they do make is of the highest quality you can find. All of their products are full spectrum hemp CBD oil made from organically grown hemp. You can use them either as a daily supplement, for pets that need it for chronic issues or use it on occasions when needed if your pet has less severe issues.
I mentioned above that I use it primarily for Summer’s hips so she has improved mobility, but I also use give it to her when I know that I’m going to be leaving the house for an extended period of time. She gets a little bit of separation anxiety, so taking this CBD oil helps calm her down and rest easy while she’s home alone.
You can purchase their oils in 15, 30, or 60 ml bottle. When you check out the products on the LolaHemp website, you will find dosing guidelines to help you administer the proper amount, which depends on your pet’s size as well as the issue you are treating. I like that they take the guesswork out of it and make it really easy for you.
I’m not the only one who has had a great experience with this brand – check out what other happy customers say in their Lola Hemp review:
Amazing products, a philanthropic brand that has their heart in the right place, 30-day money back guarantee… what more could you ask for? Oh, a coupon code, of course!
For readers of this site, LolaHemp has been kind enough to create a coupon code – enter HLCOMIC during checkout and get 15% off your order! What are you waiting for? Click below to start shopping!
