If you’re looking to lose weight, it’s not rocket science to say that you need to get more vegetables in your diet. If you don’t know that, you’ve been living under a rock. Vegetables are full of vitamins, minerals, and fiber that help keep your body regular. They are also low in calories, so you can eat more of them without cheating on your daily calorie intake for losing weight.

While it’s known that vegetables are a must in your diet, which ones should you be eating?

Vegetables to Eat to Lose Weight

Vegetables are such a great source of weight-loss foods because of their content. Much of them are made up of mostly fiber and water. This has two effects. For one, you will fill up faster, making you less likely to overeat or snack. Secondly, the fiber boosts your digestion so you are able to pass your metabolized food much more efficiently.

If you’re looking to gain weight with vegetables, it is best to eat starchy veggies. So it makes sense if your goal is the opposite, you should be staying away from the starches. Here’s what you should be eating if you want to shed some unwanted pounds.

What’s great about these? They are so easy to eat, whether you want them raw or cooked. They make great snack sticks, and you can even add some peanut butter and raisins (“ants on a log” to up the nutritional value. Celery is mostly comprised of water, so you’ll fill up your belly without adding many calories.


These vegetables are rich in fiber and beta-carotene, making them a great snack or addition to any meal. Like celery, they make for great snack sticks with a low-fat veggie dip. Throw a bag of baby carrots in the fridge at home or in the office fridge and you have a ready-made snack that is tasty, as well as healthy!

Leafy Greens

As mentioned above, you want to stay away from starches, so leafy vegetables should be high on your list of vegetables to lose weight. I try to have a salad every day, whether it be at lunch or dinner. Green salads have no fat and have so many phytonutrients that keep your body working at its best. Try to get one in your diet every day, just stay away from fatty dressings!


Another vegetable that is mostly water and fiber, with zero carbs and zero fat! These make a great addition to a leafy green salad. You can also cut them into dipping sticks, like a carrot or celery, to enjoy with your favorite veggie dip.


Tons of fiber, zero fat, and low in calories makes this a great vegetable for losing weight. Another benefit is that they, like many veggies, are so versatile. You can have them hot or cold, raw or cooked, all alone or as part of a dish.

If you want to lose weight, there’s no argument against adding more vegetables to your diet. They are low in calories, give you plenty of fiber, fill up your belly to curb your unhealthy cravings, and on top of all that – they taste great!
